Getting to the roots of quality

Healthy roots contribute to healthy plant growth and ultimately to an improvement in fruit quality. Plant nutrition to support root health is already used in banana production. Plants begin to show specific symptoms in the event of nutrient deficiency, and this applies too to the hidden part of the plant, the roots. With its high rate of growth, the banana is a particularly hungry plant with a nutrient intake of some 1,400 kg / ha. This is much higher than, for example, coffee with an intake of about 400 kg / ha per year. Nutrient intake is maintained throughout the entire growth phase, suggesting that the banana depends on a well-developed and healthy root system.
