75% of our planet consists of water but only 2% is drinking water, and 70% of that is used for agricultural purposes. This is far too much for the future, and we are still wasting water through the use of outdated irrigation methods. Calculations on the ratio of water use to water availability for the year 2030 expect a shortfall of 40%. Modern methods such as drip irrigation can thus be used to optimise water consumption. Compared to a water efficiency of only 40% in the case of furrow irrigation, the efficiency of droplet irrigation is better than 95%. This represents a saving of as much as 60%. Droplet irrigation involves precise and carefully dosed amounts of water delivered directly to the plant.
